Gaming chairs can range in price from as low as $50 to as high as $1,400. It follows the trend of many gaming products which tend to have wide swings in price. The cost of a gaming chair will ultimately come down to what you need in the chair and the features you need. The following tables summarize what you should expect to pay for a gaming chair in 2020.
How Much Are Gaming Chairs?
There are essentially three types of game chairs. There are normal office chairs, which actually tend to be the best chairs for gaming. They usually have the most ergonomic features and can provide the best support for marathon gaming sessions. Racing chairs are what is most associated with “gaming chairs”. They have the sporty look, have a high back and usually come with a wild palette of colors. These chairs get the job done for the most part, but we actually wouldn’t recommend them for gamers playing more than 6 hours at a time, several times a week. Lastly there are rocker chairs, which are better for people gaming off of PS4 and Xbox.

To narrow down price the price range, you need to consider the features you want on the chair. As we allude to in the intro, ergonomic features like headrests and lumbar support are going to make the chair more expensive.
Cost of a Ergonomic Gaming Chair
Ergonomics is the most important part of a gaming chair. An ergonomic chair ensures all parts of your back, neck and shoulders are properly aligned so you can sit in comfort for hours on end. These gaming chairs tend to cost more than $100. You are not likely to find a chair that has good ergonomics for under that price. We breakdown different price levels for ergonomic game chairs.
Gaming Chair with Lumbar Support Cost: > $100
You won’t find a gaming chair or office chair with a specified lumbar support feature for less than $100 – with most really above $150. You can read here why lumbar support is important, but the short of it is, lumbar support can save you a lot of money down the line in medical bills.
Game Chairs With Tension Recline Control > $65
Tension recline control means you can adjust the chair to either recline easily or with difficulty after you apply pressure. This feature will be best for people who are trying to maintain a upright posture or switch back and forth between recline and forward sitting. For the former, you want your chair to not slide back whenever you apply slight pressure. For the latter, if you like to switch between forward leaning and reclining, having tension control will be important. Without the feature, you may have to manually adjust each time the recline of the chair or be forced to just stay in the upright position. Most chairs under $100 do not have the feature, so if you fall into either category, you should consider getting tension recline control.
Adjustable Armrests >$85
Adjustable armrests are important for gamers who often switch positions or have narrow or wide gaming areas. Armrests that can adjust up and down will be very important if you switch between console and pc gaming. With a console, you likely will want to keep your arms on your lap, this wanting a higher support for your elbows to rest on. If you are gaming on your PC on the other hand, you may want a lower support for your arms which will be angled upward toward the keyboard.
Furthermore, you may want armrests which adjust width-wise as well if your gaming area is irregularly shaped. Some angled desks may have a narrow opening to insert your chair, which may not to be optimal for several wide chairs.
