Like all citizens of the free world, the people of New Zealand have definitely warmed up to the idea of unrestricted, private internet access. Some want Netflix, others want to torrent, while others just want to know that their activity is not being watched and recorded. New Zealand of course, being a particularly free country, faces fewer restrictions than many other countries when it comes to things like censorship; nonetheless, there are still many uses for a VPN and that is why you should care about getting the best of the best in terms of online security, whether you are in New Zealand or somewhere else around the world.

People want safe, steady access to content that has been geographically censored or blocked. They want protection without sacrificing speed. They want to download, but they do not want to worry about the risks of dangerous downloading. They want to be protected from bad actors and spies. People want to torrent their favorite media, but they want the whole process to be safe. And everybody wants to make sure their online financial activity, including credit card payments and bank transfers, are as secure as possible.

Luckily, even if you are not in the far global southeast, the best VPN for New Zealand is likely an international option that will be open for use just about anywhere. The best VPN that you can use in New Zealand will be available just about anywhere else around the world, too.

Privacy, safety, reliable servers, safe access to content, and getting around your own homeland's geoblocking and censorship. These are the sorts of considerations we think about when we rank the best VPN in the game, and we are sure that you will be happy to use any of the VPN options on this list.

The first thing we'll look at is a list of the top options for VPN services. Then, we will take a deep dive into the top 3 options, because we strongly recommend each and every one of them for anybody with an internet connection. Choosing a VPN provider is a big choice but we are sure that all of the names on this list (especially the top three) are undeniably as good as it gets in the VPN game.

The Best VPN Options

  1. NordVPN: safe, speedy, and user-friendly. What else could you ask for?
  2. ExpressVPN: Extremely fast, steady connections, this is an awesome VPN that provides limitless downloading and bandwidth potential.
  3. CyberGhost: excellent & user friendly from the servers to the functionality.
  4. HotSpot Shield: Just outside of our top 3, HotSpot Shield still maintains high-end servers (with an abundance of servers in NZ), and offers top-of-the-game security and privacy.
  5. Private VPN: Not as big of a name as some of the others on this list, this is still one of the best VPNS out there, with lots of servers, easy to use, and most of the perks offered by the higher-end VPN provider.

Why Getting the Best VPN Matters

When asking us about the perks of a VPN, New Zealand residents are often asking what the use is-- as in, what's the point in getting a VPN in an already free country? Well, there are many perks. How many times have you heard of an exciting new offering on Netflix only to realize it is online available on British and American Netflix? Brutal. Have you ever been dying to watch a specific movie, but it is not available on any streaming or downloading service you can find? If so, a VPN makes the process of torrenting considerably easier, and each of the options we have selected are perfect for your everyday New Zealander because they are easy to use with tons of conveniently located servers.

It's not just citizens of New Zealand who benefit from a list like this, however. If you are just visiting the country and want to engage an option from this list of VP providers-- all of whom are easy to use, simple to trust, and happy to help, all five of the aforementioned options suit your needs. Whether you need to change your IP address to access blocked content or just to add that extra degree of security, the best VPN providers go above and beyond, and each offer their own unique incentives and benefits, as well as some pitfalls in a few cases.

But why even care about paying for one of the best vpns on the market?

Basically, advocating for a more liberated and protected online experience, whether online at home or on a public wifi network, is the best way to keep yourself and others safe. Whether it's for travel or for around the house, the best VPN for new users and those who are well aware of the benefits of use, are all featured on this list.

When we're analyzing the best VPN to use in New Zealand and abroad, what are we really looking for?

  • High-speed service
  • Unlimited bandwidth and download capacity
  • Local servers in New Zealand as well as a breadth of international servers
  • Torrenting and downloading
  • International access to the best content from streaming providers
  • Customer service and support
  • General user-friendliness

When we put all these factors together and grade accordingly...

What are the top 3 Best VPNS in the Game?

1. NordVPN

Whether you are in NZ or abroad, NordVPN has established itself as the best VPN for new and experienced users. It's not just reputation, either. NordVPN has nearly 20 servers in New Zealand and more than 5,000 around the world. Not to mention, their committed, practical customer service team is ready to help any time of any day, literally! Of course, no stone is left unturned when it comes to security and protection, as they have tons of protocols and extra measures to ensure nothing is compromised. On top of all of this, of course, they offer a 30-day money-back guarantee.

  • More servers in NZ than any other major VPN option
  • Servers ensure safe & secure torrenting (specific P2P servers available)
  • Ability to supersede geoblocks, including for Netflix, Hulu, BBC, Amazon Prime, HBO, and more
  • Wide range of device compatibility
  • Simultaneous connection availability

With all of this in mind, if you are looking for something that can unblock your favorite streaming services, support your torrenting and protect you from any negative consequences associated, and work on basically any of your devices, NordVPN may be the best choice available-- not only in New Zealand with its 20ish local servers, but in the entire world.

2. ExpressVPN

ExpressVPN is known internationally for being the fastest among all the other VPN providers. If you are new to the game, you may be amazed by their speed, as well as the rest of their incredible features, including the fact that they have over 3,000 servers around the globe, each of which promising strong, stable connections at a supremely high speed. They also go the whole nine yards when it comes to privacy, which not all NZ VPN providers do. For example, their serious no-logging policy leaves your activity about as protected as your information can be. And, like all great VPN options, they offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. When choosing a VPN for New Zealand, we are sure factors these will be applicable to your concerns.

What else is so great about ExpressVPN?

  • No VPN provider does it faster while also accessing regionally censored content
  • Unlimited downloads and bandwidth
  • Universally beloved in user reviews
  • Ideal for torrenting safely and securely with P2P servers
  • Streaming unblocked Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, BBC, Showtime, HBO, and so on
  • High-end security apparatus: 256 encryption, DNS leak protection, kill switch, browser extensions
  • Easy to use

Now, for those looking for the ideal VPN for New Zealand, we should mention that of all their thousands of global servers, only one is in NZ. Nonetheless, we still recommend ExpressVPN for your average New Zealand user!

3. CyberGhost

Unlike many VPN services which only have one or two servers in NZ, there are at least 10 CyberGhost VPN servers in the nation of New Zealand. As if this were not enough, CyberGhost is a fan favorite for all of those who want to torrent and engage in other forms of file sharing It is practical and user-friendly, and they exceed the industry standard by providing an epic 45-day money-back guarantee as well as a 7-day free trial.

What's to love about CyberGhost?

  • More that 6,000 servers around the globe, with 10 in New Zealand currently
  • User-friendly interface
  • Seven simultaneous connections
  • Freedom to stream regionally censored content from Netflix, Comedy Central, ESPN, and more
  • Amazing protection, privacy, and security: leak protection, DNS protection, automatic kill switch, 256-bit encryption, and more

CyberGhost is hugely popular among streamers and torrenters alike. In New Zealand, the users of CyberGhost are wildly positive about every element of the experience, including being able to engage up to seven simultaneous connections. Is it the best VPN for New Zealand? Some say so!

Not quite the top three, what other VPN providers are worth looking to in New Zealand?

This is a great question. Each of the first three we mentioned are all international sensations that will likely come in at the top of any list of top VPN providers, whether in New Zealand or just about anywhere else. If you are new to the VPN game, you have likely seen these three come up time and time again, and may be wondering if they are really worth the reputation they generally have. In our opinion, they are among the best in the world by just about any standard, and even though ExpressVPN does not quite have the server quantity of the other two in New Zealand specifically, each gets you basically what you would want from a VPN IP address -- torrenting and streaming content of your choice from just about anywhere, safely and securely.

Nonetheless, we can offer a few more selections that also offer premium VPN services.

Hotspot Shield is an excellent option. Their encryption level is second to none, keeping you and your privacy safe and secure. There is no limit on the amount of data and bandwidth, and you can use the VPN from up to five devices. If you are unsure if you want to take a run with HotSpot Shield, you can also take advantage of their 7-day free trial to give it a test run, which is obviously a huge bonus.

Other than this:

  • High speed
  • Up to five connections at once
  • Tons of New Zealand servers
  • Extremely fast speeds
  • Optimal security
  • Unblocks Netflix, AmazonPrime, Hulu, and more
  • Torrenting on P2P servers

Is HotSpot Shield as well known as the previous three? Not quite. Nevertheless, it offers you safe, private, reliable access to all of the content you desire, whether you are in New Zealand or elsewhere. It is a top provider for VPNS.

PrivateVPN, similarly, manages to cover all the bases without quite excelling to the same level as Nord VPN, Express VPN, and CyberGhost. Nonetheless, there are no bandwidth or downloading restrictions, it is easy to use, and it offers the typical guarantee of your money-back in a month if you're not satisfied. Their server count is not as epic as the others, but they do have presence in New Zealand and around the globe.

  • Fast speeds
  • Unblocks Netflix & more, giving you access to stream all the content you desire
  • Excellent customer service team
  • Secure and safe
  • Some servers specifically designated for torrenting & P2P activity

To Conclude: Choosing the best VPN for you

So, whether you are living in New Zealand or just visiting, any of these providers are going to provide you with all of the essentials that you would want from a high-end option. We are always stressing that there are some core components that all great VPN providers should carry, and these of course include access (in the sense of torrenting and streaming from all popular platforms), security, and privacy. Any VPN option that does not promise to optimize your experience on these three core components does not deserve your time or your money, and does a disservice to the greater good that the VPN project is trying to achieve in the world. We chose this list carefully because each of the five options are seamless in their delivery of everything we value in a VPN, and that is a rare accomplishment indeed. If there is a VPN option that we left off the list that you think deserves to be here, let us know, but also recognize that we have absolutely done our research and we feel very confident in our top 3, as well as the next two.

This article strives to educate you on not just the benefits of a VPN, but also what to look for in making your own informed decision. At the end of the day, everybody will have a slightly different set of values and criteria they use to evaluate these options. Many users swear that CyberGhost is superior to NordVPN, while others strongly disagree. One factor we didn't look at so much was price, and of course this will impact the decision making of many potential users, as well.

At the end of the day, we think that it is very clear why you should be interested in a VPN, whether you are in New Zealand or elsewhere, and we are extremely confident in advocating the five names we listed in this comprehensive review.

  1. Why didn’t you include Atlas VPN? I’ve been using it in New Zealand just after I was done with using express VPN and it honestly did the same job for free lol. Well the speeds were a bit slower, but I think it’s because I was using the free version. Anyhow tho, it’s a very legit VPN and I think it really deserves a spot here
